On September 30 2021, a new statutory holiday called National Truth and Reconciliation Day will be an opportunity to recognize and reflect on the legacy of residential schools, fulfilling one of many recommendations made by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. This is also the same day as Orange Shirt Day, and we encourage everyone to wear your orange shirt on this important day. Many parishes may choose to acknowledge National Truth and Reconciliation/Orange Shirt Day on the Sunday before or after.

At this time, it is not a provincial statutory holiday, only federally regulated workplaces (such as the federal government, banks, post offices, etc.) will be closed to observe this day.
