Warden's CornerThe blessing of legacy giving Each of us hopes we can leave a legacy for the next generation to remember us by after we are gone and also to “carry the torch” for those things which matter most to us. A legacy may take many shapes, such as a memoir or a body of knowledge, or a piece of music or art. Legacy can also be in the form of a gift. Jesus gave the gift of His life as His legacy that “we might become the children of God” and left us the sacrament of the Eucharist to remind us of our One way that some people choose to leave a legacy is to bequeath a portion of their estate towards the ongoing mission of the church. As you know, this past year St Peter’s was blessed by two bequests from members of our congregation whose timely gifts played a significant role in supporting St Peter’s ongoing mission. Often, we imagine an estate gift to be the domain of the very wealthy; however, all gifts, both big and small, have significance to God. In the words of St Paul: Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. 2Cor 9:7-8 Perhaps a legacy gift is something you are considering and would like to know more about, and, if so, there will be a presentation on estate planning and charitable donations of securities on September 26th at St John the Divine in Courtenay, which is open to all. This presentation will be given by Joel Hefty (Diocesan Treasurer), Isabel Weeks (Diocesan Chancellor) and Pieter de la Rey (a local Chartered Professional Accountant). The presentation will start at 1pm, and there will be snacks and refreshments available. I am confident that people will find the information at the presentation useful, and I encourage anyone who is interested to come. |

Altar Flowers
Many thanks to everyone who has donated altar flowers over the summer. It has been so lovely having them to enhance our beautiful church. We are now entering a new season when garden flowers are less plentiful, and we could use more donors to keep this project going. There is a book just inside the church where people can sign up either in memory of someone or just a straight donation. Then one of us will contact you about the details. We look forward to your participation in keeping flowers on the altar. |

Donations for our Food Shelf
Our food shelf is running low on several essential daily items, and we need your support to keep our shelves stocked and our neighbours supported. Right now, we would particularly appreciate donations of hearty breakfast and lunch staples like honey, peanut butter, and jam, alongside warm beverages including tea and coffee. For shelf-stable dinners and sides, we are urgently seeking grains like quinoa and rice, as well as canned food items such as tuna, salmon, vegetables, or fruit. We also want to provide comforting treats and everyday essentials, so we are collecting cookies, crackers, snack foods, and everyday condiments like ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise. Finally, we are running low on personal hygiene necessities, specifically soap, body wash, and shampoo. Thank you to everyone who's been stopping by with donations! |

Parishioner's Corner
Keening WindA wretched wakefulness stalks my brow
And sleep is put to flight.
No guardian angel or healing balm,
Will soothe my lids tonight.
Outside my window a keening wind
His solemn requiem cries,
Mid gulps of penitential tears,
And agonizing sighs.
What cruel impulse brings you here
To prate your tale of woe.
Did you too taste the chilling loss
Of one you cherished so?
